‘Superman’ Teaser Trailer to Drop December 19, 2024

by Chris Davies

The highly anticipated Superman movie, directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as the iconic Man of Steel, is set to hit US theaters on July 11, 2025. As the excitement continues to build, fans eagerly await the first teaser trailer, which is slated for release this week. The official drop date has now been confirmed for Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. PST.

Gunn, who also serves as co-head of the DC Universe, made the announcement via social media, sharing a brief clip featuring the DCU Superman logo. “Superman #trailer Thursday,” he captioned the post on X (formerly Twitter). The official Superman movie account echoed this message, solidifying the teaser’s release time.

Interestingly, the teaser for Superman follows a major milestone for the DC Universe, as the film is set to be the first feature under Gunn’s leadership. Fans have already gotten a taste of the new DCU’s Superman in an animated cameo during the teaser for Creature Commandos, which premiered its first two episodes.

Details surrounding the trailer itself hint at a darker tone for the upcoming film. The teaser appears to show a grim future, with Superman depicted on a cross, flanked by characters who have met a similar fate. Among the figures shown are Starfire and what seems to be Mr. Terrific, both impaled and positioned beside Superman in a stark and dramatic image. In the background, other individuals in distress can be seen.

Despite the focus on Superman in the film, industry insider Matt Belloni of Puck News has suggested that the trailer may not center on the hero himself. The first trailer may instead showcase Krypto the Superdog, a likely reference to the beloved canine companion who could make an early appearance.

Superman marks Gunn’s personal take on the iconic character, with the director adapting the screenplay himself. Alongside Corenswet, the film features an impressive cast, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. The film’s ensemble promises an exciting introduction to a new era for the DC Universe.
