Rebel Wilson Stars in Action-Comedy ‘Bride Hard’

by Chris Davies

Rebel Wilson is stepping into action-star territory with her latest role in the upcoming movie Bride Hard, directed by Con Air filmmaker Simon West. The trailer for the action-comedy film debuted Wednesday, showcasing Wilson as a secret agent-turned-Maid of Honor who must save her best friend’s wedding from a group of armed mercenaries.

The 45-year-old actress, who has recently taken on a personal health challenge, headlines the ensemble cast alongside Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Stephen Dorff, Gigi Zumbado, and Justin Hartley.

In the newly released footage, Wilson appears in a striking red, off-the-shoulder bridesmaid gown as chaos erupts around the wedding celebration. The film is set for a theatrical release on June 20.

Promoting the trailer on social media, Wilson teased, “This summer, you are invited to one unforgettable wedding. Grab your bride or die and see #BrideHard, only in theaters June 20.”

Online reactions to the trailer have been sharply divided. While some fans eagerly anticipate the film’s over-the-top premise, others criticized the casting choice. One YouTube commenter remarked, “I’m just confused… Rebel is not an action star. Her fight scenes I can tell are heavily edited and the stunt double did most of the work.”

Another added, “Seriously, Rebel Wilson is not an action star. What a joke.”

The criticism extended beyond Wilson. A fan expressed surprise at Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s appearance, stating, “I can’t believe Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph is in this movie—it’s so beneath her.”

However, many rallied behind the film and its leading lady. “This looks soo cheesy and I can’t wait to see it!!!!” one enthusiastic fan wrote. Others pointed out that Wilson had previously appeared in a successful action-comedy, and argued that being an “action star” shouldn’t be a prerequisite for leading such a movie.

Some viewers were momentarily confused by the tone of the trailer, with several mistaking it for a new installment in the Pitch Perfect franchise. “Not gonna lie, I thought this was a Pitch Perfect 4 announcement. Nice tho!” wrote one Instagram user.

Another echoed the sentiment: “So many hate comments. Don’t watch it if you don’t want to. I’m 100% WATCHING IT. REBEL AND ANNA!” they said, referencing Wilson’s Pitch Perfect 3 co-star Anna Camp.

Off-screen, Wilson continues to share her personal wellness journey with her 11 million Instagram followers. She recently launched a six-week health challenge, vowing to abstain from chocolate and ice cream after overindulging during Easter.

“May or may not be on the train thinking of chocolate and ice cream but NO I have not broken the challenge… but it is challenging!” she wrote in a recent update.

Bride Hard hits theaters June 20, blending explosions, high heels, and bridal drama in a movie that promises to be anything but traditional.
