Actor Ramón Rodríguez recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote his upcoming action film G20, in which he stars alongside Academy Award-winner Viola Davis. During the lively interview, Rodríguez shared his admiration for Davis, his excitement about the movie’s throwback appeal, and some heartfelt memories from his childhood.
Rodríguez and host Kelly Clarkson bonded over their mutual love for G20, calling it a thrilling, old-school action film reminiscent of classics like Air Force One and Die Hard. “We don’t see them with a beautiful Black female president kicking butt. She’s fierce,” Rodríguez said of Davis, drawing enthusiastic applause from the studio audience.
In the film, Davis portrays the President of the United States, and Rodríguez plays her lead Secret Service agent. “As if I need to protect her—she can handle herself just fine,” he said with a smile. “She’s the Woman King,” he added, referencing Davis’ acclaimed 2022 role as an African warrior leader, known for performing many of her own stunts.
Beyond the film, Rodríguez shared a personal story that offered a glimpse into his upbringing in New York City. A childhood photo shown during the segment prompted a lighthearted memory of painting walls in his apartment as a boy. “They put me to work!” he laughed. “My mom and my three sisters, they were like, ‘You’re the man of the house, paint the house.’”
He reflected on the sense of duty he felt from an early age. “I did feel a responsibility growing up, just as the only man in the house. I felt like I had to protect my house,” he said, before adding humorously, “My apartment. My studio apartment on the Lower East Side.”
Rodríguez’s charisma, respect for his co-stars, and candid reflections made for a memorable and heartfelt interview—just as action-packed and genuine as the film he’s promoting. G20 promises to bring adrenaline, empowerment, and nostalgia to audiences when it hits theaters.
