Lionsgate is set to release A Breed Apart, a new horror film that draws inspiration from the 2006 Wes Craven-produced thriller The Breed. In a unique twist, this remake offers a meta-layer to the original story, shifting the focus to a fresh group of survivors facing off against a pack of man-eating dogs.
Scheduled for release on May 16, 2025, both in theaters and on-demand, A Breed Apart is billed as a “hilariously harrowing tale of terror.” The trailer suggests a shocking narrative shift, where the plot predominantly features humans killing dogs rather than the expected vice versa. Animal lovers may want to approach this one with caution.
The film stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey, with Page Kennedy, known for his role in The Meg, rounding out the cast. Directed by brothers Griff and Nathan Furst, A Breed Apart follows Violet, played by Gardner, as she accepts an invitation to a private island with some of the world’s most famous social media influencers. What begins as an opportunity for viral fame quickly escalates into a nightmare when the guests are forced into a deadly competition to capture the island’s legendary, man-eating dogs—before they become the next victims.
Joining the cast are Hayden Panettiere, Riele Downs, Zak Steiner, and Troy Gentile, adding further star power to this intense horror experience. Fans of twisted, survival-themed thrillers can expect a suspense-filled ride when A Breed Apart hits screens next month.
