Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Murderbot, an eagerly awaited sci-fi thriller that blends humor with suspense. The series, executive produced and starring Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård, is based on the acclaimed The Murderbot Diaries book series by Martha Wells. This highly anticipated show is set to premiere globally on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on Friday, May 16, 2025. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly every Friday through July 11.
Murderbot follows the story of a self-aware, self-hacking security construct known as Murderbot, portrayed by Skarsgård. Although programmed to protect its human clients, Murderbot is repulsed by human emotions yet finds itself unexpectedly drawn to its vulnerable charges. The construct struggles with its free will and a dangerous mission, all while yearning for nothing more than to be left alone to indulge in futuristic soap operas and explore its place in the universe.
The series also stars an impressive ensemble cast, including Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.
Produced by Paramount Television Studios, Murderbot comes from the minds of Academy Award-nominated brothers Chris and Paul Weitz, who wrote, directed, and produced the show under their Depth of Field banner. Andrew Miano also serves as an executive producer alongside the Weitz brothers. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine executive produce for Phantom Four, with Martha Wells contributing as a consulting producer.
Fans of the Murderbot book series can look forward to an exciting mix of thrilling action and sharp humor when the series debuts next month.
