Netflix has released the highly anticipated main trailer for Bullet Train Explosion, set to premiere on April 23. Directed by Shinji Higuchi, the film is a modern reimagining of the 1975 classic The Bullet Train, with a thrilling new twist. Utilizing real bullet trains and cutting-edge facilities, the film promises an unparalleled sense of realism, capturing the high-stakes suspense from start to finish.
In Bullet Train Explosion, the Hayabusa No. 60, a high-speed Shinkansen bound for Tokyo, becomes a ticking time bomb. A bomb has been planted aboard the train, set to detonate if its speed drops below 100 km/h. Conductor Takaichi (played by Tsuyoshi Kusanagi), along with fellow conductor Fujii (Kanata Hosoda) and driver Matsumoto (Non), must race against time to avert disaster. As the tension mounts, the film introduces an array of compelling characters, including Diet member Kagami (Machiko Ono), entrepreneur and YouTuber Todoroki (Jun Kaname), and high school student Yuzuki (Hana Toyoshima). Takumi Saitoh portrays Kasagi, the General Commander at the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center, overseeing the mission to avert catastrophe.
The newly released trailer offers a pulse-pounding look at the intense action aboard the speeding train, where every second counts. A unique collaboration with JR East ensures the film’s level of realism is unmatched, transporting viewers directly into the heart of the crisis.
Adding to the film’s excitement is the striking new key art by Kyle Lambert, renowned for his work on Stranger Things and ONE PIECE. Lambert’s vibrant, dramatic style evokes the energy of 1970s movie posters, perfectly encapsulating the high-octane thrills of Bullet Train Explosion.
In discussing the artwork, Lambert expressed his enthusiasm: “It is a great honor to be asked by Netflix to illustrate a poster for such a big and exciting new movie. I remember watching Speed when I was growing up and loved all the action and suspense. For Bullet Train Explosion, I had the opportunity to create a dramatic poster that captures the movie’s intensity, featuring high-speed action and stellar performances from the cast. I’m really proud of how the artwork turned out and can’t wait for everyone to see the movie.”
Additionally, new stills have been released, giving a glimpse into the heart-pounding action and high-stakes drama aboard the Hayabusa No. 60, as well as the tense atmosphere at the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center.
As the train hurtles towards its destination, the question remains: will the crew succeed in averting disaster before time runs out?
Don’t miss Bullet Train Explosion, streaming on Netflix starting April 23.
