‘Doctor Who’ Season 2: New Companion Joins for Epic Adventure

by Chris Davies

The TARDIS is set to welcome a new companion in the upcoming season of Doctor Who. In the first trailer for Season 2 of the BBC and Disney+ reboot, Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor is joined by Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Varada Sethu. In an amusing twist, Belinda declares that she will go by the name “The Nurse” after being introduced by the Doctor.

“There is something already connecting us,” the Doctor tells Belinda, as the trailer teases their adventure across time and space. Belinda is glimpsed in a different era, where she is depicted as an intergalactic soldier. This season follows the duo on an epic journey to return Belinda to Earth, but a mysterious force is thwarting their efforts, forcing them to face greater dangers, formidable enemies, and unimaginable terrors.

In the trailer, the Doctor warns, “There are forces beyond this universe. We think we are so clever, but we are like children. And when these vast creatures look down on us, our entire reality is in danger.”

Among the new threats is the villainous Mr. Ring-a-Ding, a cartoon character voiced by Alan Cumming, who escapes a movie theater screen to terrorize an unsuspecting 1950s audience. Additionally, the Doctor and Belinda will attend the Interstellar Song Contest, an out-of-this-world version of Eurovision, featuring a cameo from Eurovision commentator Rylan Clark.

Season 2 will also see the return of Millie Gibson as the Doctor’s previous companion, Ruby Sunday, alongside appearances from Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray, and Jonah Hauer-King.

Premiering on April 12, Doctor Who will be available on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK, with international audiences able to stream it on Disney+. The series is produced by Bad Wolf in collaboration with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television.
