Netflix’s ‘You’ Season 5: The Final Chapter Begins April 24

by Chris Davies

Netflix‘s hit psychological thriller You is gearing up for its highly anticipated fifth and final season, set to premiere on April 24. After wrapping up five months of filming in New York City last August, fans have been treated to a glimpse of what’s to come with the release of a new teaser trailer, following the debut of an earlier preview last month.

Series lead Penn Badgley returns as the enigmatic Joe Goldberg, whose complex relationship with the characters around him intensifies as the story nears its conclusion. Joining Badgley in the final season is Charlotte Ritchie, reprising her role as Kate Galvin, who found herself in a complicated romance with Joe at the end of Season 4. The new season also introduces a stellar lineup of actors, including Madeline Brewer, known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, who takes on a regular role in the upcoming episodes.

Anna Camp, famous for her work in the Pitch Perfect films, and Griffin Matthews of The Flight Attendant will also appear in the final season. Camp plays dual roles as Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg. Raegan is described as a ruthless CFO with ambitions to seize control of the Lockwood Corp, while Maddie, a socialite and master manipulator, hides a cunning side beneath her playful persona. Matthews portrays Teddy Lockwood, a loyal but snarky family member who struggles to find acceptance within the Lockwood family despite his empathy and authenticity.

Additionally, Baby Reindeer’s Nava Mau joins the cast in a guest role as Detective Marquez, though details about her character remain under wraps. Brewer’s character, Bronte, is an intriguing playwright who takes a job at Joe’s bookstore, sparking a connection with him that forces Joe to confront his past and his increasingly complicated life.

While You creator Sera Gamble, who had envisioned the show as a five-season journey, remains on board as an executive producer, she has handed over the showrunner duties to Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. Both are well-acquainted with the series, having worked on You since its early seasons. This transition marks a significant shift as the series nears its thrilling conclusion.

Adapted from Caroline Kepnes’ novels, You has captivated audiences with its dark exploration of obsession, love, and identity. In the final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to embrace a life he believes is perfect, only to be haunted by the ghosts of his past and the dark desires that continue to define his existence.
