Netflix has officially set the release date for its highly anticipated slasher film Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest chapter in its successful Fear Street franchise. Based on R.L. Stine’s novel, the movie will be available for streaming starting May 23, bringing fresh horror to the high school prom scene.
In the first teaser trailer for the film, R.L. Stine himself introduces the upcoming installment, which is set during a senior prom at Shadyside High. The trailer offers a glimpse into the twisted narrative, where a glamorous, blood-soaked prom season quickly turns into a nightmare for the students.
The movie stars Fina Strazza (known for Paper Girls) as Tiffany Falconer, India Fowler (The Agency) as Lori Granger, Arianna Greenblatt (Barbie) as Christy Renault, Ella Rubin (The Idea of You) as Melissa McKendrick, and Rebecca Ablack (Let It Snow) as Debbie. The film’s official synopsis teases a deadly competition among Shadyside’s popular girls. As prom season heats up, the fierce rivalry for the crown takes a dark turn when an unexpected outsider is nominated for prom court. When other girls begin to disappear under mysterious circumstances, the class of ’88 is forced to face a prom night none of them will ever forget.
Directed by Matt Palmer, who co-wrote the screenplay with Donald McLeary, Fear Street: Prom Queen promises to continue the franchise’s tradition of blending teen drama with horror. The cast also includes Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Chris Klein (Sweet Magnolias), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From).
The film is produced by Kori Adelson, Dan Bernard, Peter Chernin, August Linn, and Jenno Topping, with Yvonne M. Bernard, Jane Stine, and Joan Waricha serving as executive producers. As fans await the May 23 release, it looks like Fear Street: Prom Queen will deliver another chilling chapter in the franchise’s blood-stained legacy.
