‘Marshmallow’ Brings Summer Camp Horror to Theaters This Spring

by Chris Davies

Marshmallow, a chilling new horror film, is set to bring an unsettling summer camp experience to theaters this spring. Directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio, the indie feature will be released by Hemlock Circle Productions on April 11.

The film stars Giorgia Whigham (Ted), Alysia Reiner (Orange Is the New Black), and Corbin Bernsen (L.A. Law). The story follows Morgan (played by Kue Lawrence), a shy 12-year-old boy plagued by nightmares, who travels to a remote summer camp. There, he discovers that an eerie campfire legend about the camp has turned into a deadly reality. A mysterious figure begins stalking the campers, forcing Morgan and his new friends to confront a terrifying challenge.

In the trailer, exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, Whigham’s character, who plays Blaire Bennett in Ted, reveals a chilling backstory: “There used to be cabins all throughout these woods. One of those cabins belonged to a doctor. He had this huge cellar in the basement. If you stay up too late or if you leave your cabin past curfew, you just might see the doctor.”

Later, a visibly shaken Morgan declares, “He’s the doctor! He’s real.”

DelPurgatorio makes his feature film directorial debut with a script by Andy Greskoviak (Black Friday). The film is produced by Warner Davis and Todd M. Friedman.

Recent releases from Hemlock Circle Productions include Coup! starring Billy Magnussen and The Re-Education of Molly Singer featuring Britt Robertson.

Whigham, known for her role as Blaire Bennett in Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming Ted series on Peacock, has also appeared in 13 Reasons Why, The Orville, The Punisher, and Scream.
