In the upcoming Max Original film The Parenting, a seemingly perfect weekend getaway to introduce parents spirals into chaos when a poltergeist haunts the family rental. What begins as a serene country retreat quickly turns into a terrifying, yet absurd battle for survival.
The film follows Rohan and Josh, a young couple eager to introduce their parents to each other in a picturesque rural setting. Tensions rise between the contrasting families: the traditional Sharon and Frank and the easy-going Liddy and Cliff. However, things take a sinister turn when the group discovers their rental property—managed by quirky local Brenda—is haunted by a centuries-old poltergeist. As one parent becomes fully possessed by the malevolent force, the couple, along with their determined friend Sara, must find a way to unite the families and defeat the entity before it’s too late.
The cast of The Parenting features an impressive ensemble: Nik Dodani as Rohan, Brandon Flynn as Josh, Brian Cox as Frank, Edie Falco as Sharon, Lisa Kudrow as Liddy, Dean Norris as Cliff, Parker Posey as Brenda, and Vivian Bang as Sara.
Directed by Craig Johnson (known for The Skeleton Twins), the film features a screenplay by Saturday Night Live writer Kent Sublette. The film is produced by Chris Bender and Jake Weiner, with Richard Brener, Chris Pan, David Neustadter, and Jared Ian Goldman serving as executive producers.
Ahead of its March premiere, Max has released new promotional artwork, humorously warning that meeting the parents may be a necessary evil in this outrageous, supernatural tale.
