Marvel Studios is making significant strides toward its long-awaited X-Men movie, with new reports suggesting that production could begin as early as next year. As Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) nears its conclusion, marking the end of “The Multiverse Saga,” Marvel is turning its attention to the iconic mutant team.
In May 2024, it reported that Michael Lesslie was in talks to write the screenplay for the upcoming film, which has since been shrouded in secrecy. Although official updates have been scarce, rumors surrounding the movie have steadily gained momentum, especially regarding casting and the film’s potential introduction into the MCU.
According to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, fans may not have to wait much longer for concrete details. Sneider recently revealed on social media that production for the X-Men movie is set to begin next year, with a tentative release date in 2027. He also teased that official casting announcements, along with a potential director reveal, could arrive in the coming months, heightening anticipation ahead of CinemaCon in April 2025.
Sneider has also shared casting rumors for several key roles. Freaky Friday star Julia Butters is reportedly being considered for the role of Kitty Pryde, though this has not been confirmed by Marvel. Additionally, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson are rumored to be in the running for the roles of Jean Grey and Scott Summers (Cyclops), respectively.
While these casting rumors have not been officially confirmed, they add to the growing excitement surrounding the X-Men’s integration into the MCU. CinemaCon, which will take place from March 31 to April 3, 2025, could serve as the perfect platform for Marvel to make major announcements regarding the film.
Looking ahead, the only MCU film with a confirmed 2027 release date is Avengers: Secret Wars, set for May 7, 2027. In the meantime, Marvel fans can expect several other high-profile releases, including Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025), Thunderbolts (May 2, 2025), The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025), Avengers: Doomsday (May 1, 2026), and Spider-Man 4 (July 24, 2026).
