‘Dandadan Season 2’ : Trailer, Movie Release, and Premiere Date

by Chris Davies

Dandadan, one of 2024’s most celebrated anime releases, is set to continue its thrilling journey with the upcoming second season, premiering in the Summer of 2025. Based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga, the series became an instant hit, captivating both casual anime fans and long-time manga readers alike. As anticipation builds for the new season, fans have been treated to tantalizing teasers, including the highly awaited full trailer and the official release date.

For many anime enthusiasts who had not read the manga, Dandadan’s explosive success came as a surprise last fall. Now, as the second season gears up for its release, the first trailer offers a promising glimpse into what fans can expect. Released on Netflix‘s YouTube channel, the trailer shows Okarun and Jiji embarking on a dangerous journey to Jiji’s haunted childhood home, where they encounter the mysterious Evil Eye. Meanwhile, Momo’s storyline picks up from the Season 1 finale, where she found herself trapped in a hot spring by a group of eerie aliens. One of the most exciting reveals in the trailer is a first look at Jiji using his Evil Eye powers, a moment fans have eagerly awaited since the character was powerless throughout the first season.

The new season’s premiere is confirmed for July 3 on both Netflix and Crunchyroll. Returning for Season 2 is Science SARU, the studio responsible for the stunning animation in Season 1. Fuga Yamashro will co-direct alongside Abel Gongora, with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition and Kensuke Ushio composing the score. The Season 1 opening song, “Otonoke” by Creepy Nuts, became a fan favorite, leaving high expectations for the upcoming season’s opening track, which has yet to be revealed.

The official synopsis for Dandadan reads:

“When high schooler Momo, from a family of spirit mediums, first meets her classmate Okarun, an occult geek, they argue—Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. When it turns out both phenomena are real, Momo awakens a hidden power, and Okarun gains the power of a curse. Together, they must challenge the paranormal forces threatening their world.”

Dandadan: Evil Eye – The Movie

For die-hard fans unwilling to wait until July for the Season 2 premiere, there’s an exciting opportunity to catch a sneak peek in theaters. Just like the release of Season 1 last year, the first three episodes of Season 2 will be compiled into a feature-length film, titled Dandadan: Evil Eye. This film will debut in Japan in May, followed by screenings in the US and Europe in early June. Although the exact release date remains unconfirmed, it offers an early opportunity to dive into the new season’s thrilling storyline.

Season 2 will pick up from the dramatic cliffhanger of Season 1, where Okarun and Jiji uncover a hidden room in Jiji’s haunted home. The new episodes will cover the fan-favorite “Haunted House Arc” and “Evil Eye Arc” from the manga, ensuring that the continuation of the series will deliver more of the supernatural action and intrigue that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide.
