Nate Bargatze to Host 77th Emmy Awards This September

by Chris Davies

CBS has announced that stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze will take the stage as host of the 77th Emmy Awards, set to take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Bargatze, known for his clean, relatable humor and broad generational appeal, is the latest in a rotating cast of Emmy hosts. While other major awards shows such as the Oscars and Golden Globes have found consistency with hosts like Conan O’Brien and Nikki Glaser respectively, the Emmys have yet to settle on a recurring figure. Recent hosts have included Eugene and Dan Levy, Anthony Anderson, Kenan Thompson, and Cedric the Entertainer.

“Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,” said Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy.

Bargatze has received widespread acclaim for his stand-up work, with several specials under his belt, including his most recent release, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, now streaming on Netflix.

Reacting to the announcement, Bargatze expressed both excitement and humility: “It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show, and I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world.”

The Emmys continue to draw strong viewership, with last year’s ceremony—hosted by the father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy—garnering an average of 6.87 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, marking a 54% increase from the previous year.
