Netflix has released the official trailer for Exterritorial, an intense new action thriller directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Christian Zübert. Set to premiere globally on the streaming platform at the end of April, the film follows a mother’s relentless pursuit to uncover the truth behind her son’s mysterious disappearance—right in the heart of an international no-man’s-land.
Exterritorial centers on Sara, a former Special Forces operative played by Jeanne Goursaud, whose young son vanishes without a trace during a visit to the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt, Germany. Even more unsettling, no one inside the consulate acknowledges the boy was ever there. Trapped in a bureaucratic grey zone where German law holds no sway, Sara refuses to leave the premises. Her decision plunges her into a perilous search through the consulate’s shadowy corridors, where she uncovers layers of a dark and dangerous conspiracy.
The term exterritorial refers to something existing or taking place outside a jurisdiction’s territorial boundaries—a fitting metaphor for the thriller’s setting and its protagonist’s desperate mission.
Joining Goursaud in the cast are Dougray Scott, Lera Abova, Kayode Akinyemi, and Annabelle Mandeng. The film is written and directed by Zübert, known for Lammbock, Tour de Force, and recent TV projects like Bad Banks and The Mopes. The production team includes Götz Marx, Kerstin Schmidbauer, Franziska Suppee, and Verena Vogl.
While early reactions to the trailer suggest the film may lean into familiar action-thriller territory, Exterritorial promises high-stakes suspense and a strong central performance in the role of a mother who refuses to give up—no matter the cost.
Exterritorial will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix in late April.
