“Eden” Trailer Released in German Ahead of April Premiere

by Chris Davies

The first trailer for Eden, the upcoming survival thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Jude Law, has made its debut in an unexpected way—dubbed in German. Directed by Ron Howard, known for Solo: A Star Wars Story, the film also features Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Richard Roxburgh. The plot revolves around a group of European settlers who arrive on Floreana, an isolated Ecuadorian island.

Although the film boasts an impressive English-speaking cast and an American director, the trailer’s release is limited to German audiences due to the film’s current lack of a distributor or English-language release date. It is scheduled to premiere in Germany in April, under Leonine Studios.

Eden was previously shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it garnered a mixed reception. The film currently holds a 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Negative reviews often criticize the film as forgettable, with many feeling the talented cast is underutilized. On the other hand, some critics have praised Ana de Armas for delivering a lively, campy performance that brings a dose of black comedy to the film.

Looking ahead, Sweeney is busy filming The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig, which centers on a woman uncovering dark secrets about a wealthy couple played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. She is also set to star in A24’s The Masque of the Red Death, an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s tale.

Eden is slated for release in Germany this April, with no official release date set for other territories yet.
