Sean Haitz’s twisted slasher-comedy, “Cannibal Comedian,” has garnered North American distribution rights, with Cineverse and Scream Team Releasing set to bring the film to audiences this March.
The upcoming horror-comedy Cannibal Comedian is ready to take the stage, blending grisly humor with terrifying thrills. From the mind of writer-director Sean Haitz—known for Big Top Evil and Mangrove Slasher 2—this slasher promises a unique cinematic experience that pushes the boundaries of both the horror and comedy genres. North American distribution rights have been acquired by Cineverse and Scream Team Releasing, with the film set to hit Blu-ray, VHS, and digital platforms in early March.
A Killer Comedy
The film centers around Charlie, a psychopathic cannibal struggling with a lack of ambition. In a desperate attempt to fulfill his dreams—and his twisted urges—Charlie turns to stand-up comedy, seeking to both chase his dreams and claim new victims. The dark humor and grotesque violence come together in a way that promises to engage fans of both horror and comedy.
Starring Aaron Prager (Haunted House of Pancakes), Austin Judd (Big Top Evil), and Robert Dunne (Criminal Minds), Cannibal Comedian also features appearances from horror legends Allen Danziger and Edwin Neal, who are best known for their iconic roles in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Their involvement adds a nostalgic touch for long-time horror fans.
Haitz expressed his excitement about the project’s distribution, stating, “I think people are really going to eat it up! It’s a love letter to my favorite horror classics like Texas Chainsaw and comedies such as Ace Ventura. I had the chance to try stand-up when I first moved to LA, and it was brutal. But for Charlie, he kills both on stage and off stage.”
Festival Success and Industry Buzz
Cannibal Comedian has already generated significant buzz in the horror film festival circuit, taking home top honors at events like Marina Del Rey, Silicon Beach, and the prestigious TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. It has also caught the attention of Joe Bob Briggs, who awarded the filmmakers a Hubbie at his World Drive-In Jamboree, and filmmaker Kevin Smith, who hosted the film at his Smodcastle Film Festival.
Brandon Hill, Executive Director of Acquisitions at Cineverse, praised the film’s dynamic nature, saying, “We’re thrilled to work with Sean, Ryan, and Scream Team Releasing. This is a fun and innovative film, and we know our SCREAMBOX and Bloody Disgusting audiences will really chew into it.”
Distribution Details
Cineverse is known for distributing notable titles such as the Terrifier franchise and the upcoming Toxic Avenger remake, and they will be releasing Cannibal Comedian across multiple formats. The film will be available for purchase on Blu-ray and limited-edition VHS starting March 1. On March 4, the film will be released digitally across platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Microsoft/Xbox, in addition to streaming exclusively on SCREAMBOX.
Ryan James of Pink Plaid Productions, a producer on the project, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Cineverse and Scream Team Releasing were at the top of our list from the beginning. They continue to lead in innovation within the horror genre, and we’re thrilled that they believe in the project as much as we do.”
With its unique mix of horror, comedy, and a killer premise, Cannibal Comedian is set to leave an unforgettable mark on audiences when it arrives this spring.
