Director Adam Green, renowned for his work on Frozen (2010) and the Hatchet slasher franchise, is set to dive into a new project—a shark attack movie titled The Ascent. The film marks the first entry in a new international sales slate from Simple House Films, a production company led by Addam Bramich, Ryan Hamilton, and Volodymyr Artemenko.
The Ascent follows a group of friends who travel to Europe for an extravagant, high-risk destination wedding. What begins as a joyous occasion quickly turns into a nightmare when they find themselves trapped above shark-infested waters, facing a deadly fight for survival.
Green’s reputation in the horror genre is solid, with previous successes including the survival thriller Frozen, which centers on three friends stranded on a chairlift, and the Hatchet series, including Hatchet (2006), Hatchet II (2010), and Victor Crowley (2017). Although Hatchet III (2013) was directed by B. J. McDonnell, Green continued his involvement as the film’s screenwriter and producer.
In a statement about The Ascent, Artemenko expressed excitement about collaborating with a talented team and launching an international sales division, aiming to bring high-quality films to global audiences.
While no casting or release date has been confirmed for The Ascent, Green’s extensive body of work also includes Coffee & Donuts (2000), Spiral (2007), Chillerama (2011), Digging Up the Marrow (2014), and For the Love of Halloween (2018).
