Warner Bros. has unveiled the second trailer for Mickey 17, a comedic sci-fi film directed by Bong Joon-Ho, featuring Robert Pattinson as the unlucky protagonist, Mickey Barnes. The film, which has gained attention for its absurdly dark premise, will officially hit theaters on March 7, 2025.
Mickey 17 centers on the eponymous character, Mickey Barnes (played by Pattinson), who works for an employer with a dangerously extreme job requirement: to die repeatedly in order to complete his duties. The second trailer introduces audiences to the many ways Mickey meets his end in increasingly bizarre and comical scenarios.
The film, written and directed by Bong Joon-Ho, is based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7. Alongside Pattinson, the film stars a high-profile ensemble cast, including Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie.
The movie has received an “R” rating due to its “violent content, language throughout, sexual content, and drug material.” This rating is evident in the trailer, which showcases Mickey’s perilous situation and the violent scenarios that define the movie’s dark humor.
Produced by Oscar winners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (known for Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave), as well as Bong Joon-Ho and Dooho Choi (Okja and Snowpiercer), Mickey 17 boasts a powerhouse behind the camera. The film’s visual elements are brought to life by director of photography Darius Khondji (Oscar-nominated for Se7en), production designer Fiona Crombie (Oscar-nominated for The Favourite), and editor Yang Jinmo (who worked on Parasite). The visual effects are managed by Dan Glass, with costume design by Catherine George, a longtime collaborator of Bong Joon-Ho’s. Music for the film is composed by Jung Jaeil, known for Squid Game.
Despite several shifts in its release schedule, the latest trailer confirms that Mickey 17 will debut as planned in just over a month. In the film, Pattinson’s character will face death after death in his effort to save humanity—an endless cycle that promises plenty of action and darkly comedic moments.
