Malayalam film icon Mammootty is set to star as a sharp-witted detective in his upcoming film Dominic and The Ladies Purse, a comedy-investigative thriller that marks the debut of renowned director Gautham Vasudev Menon in Malayalam cinema. The film will also be the first collaboration between Mammootty and Menon.
On Wednesday, Mammootty shared the film’s trailer on his X handle, giving fans a glimpse into the intriguing storyline. The one-minute-thirty-second teaser introduces Mammootty’s character, Detective Dominic, who is tasked with solving a mystery involving a missing purse. However, the case quickly unravels into a much larger investigation involving several missing persons.
The trailer kicks off with Mammootty’s character greeting a new client with the line, “Welcome to Dominic Detective Agency.” As the investigation intensifies, Gokul Suresh’s character asks Dominic, “How do you do this, sir?” to which the detective responds, “Observation, concentration.” This exchange sets the tone for the clever, methodical approach Dominic takes in solving his cases.
Posters for the Dominic Detective Agency are seen throughout Kochi, boldly stating, “It is our business to know what other people don’t know.” In another scene, Mammootty’s character reflects on his extensive experience, saying, “When I was in service, this was every day for me,” suggesting a seasoned investigator with a deep understanding of the job.
The plot takes an unexpected turn when Viji Venkatesh’s character enlists Dominic to track down the owner of a missing ladies’ purse. This seemingly small case soon leads to a much bigger mystery involving two missing individuals.
Packed with comedy, action, and drama, Dominic and The Ladies Purse promises to offer a compelling cinematic experience. The film also stars Sushmita Bhat, Lena, Sidhique, Vijay Babu, and Vineeth in significant roles.
Produced by Mammootty himself under his banner Mammootty Kampany, the film features a screenplay and dialogues co-written by Dr. Neeraj Rajan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Dr. Sooraj Rajan. Dominic and The Ladies Purse is slated for a worldwide release on January 23, 2025.
